Join outdoor educator, naturalist, and experienced forager, Jazmen Yoder, for this comprehensive, interactive seminar to get prepared for foraging on your own! We’ll cover essential skills and knowledge to safely and responsibly forage wild mushrooms in your area.

  • Fungi Basics – What is a mushroom?

  • Mushroom ecology – seasonality and habitats explained

  • Learn the key differences between morels and chanterelles (Ascomycota vs Basidiomycota) .

  • Symbiotic fungal relationships – plants, lichen, and more.

  • Introduction to dichotomous keys and how to use them for identification.

Through lecture, demonstration, and a hands-on activity, you’ll gain confidence and know-how for the next mushroom foraging season.

Whether you’re a beginner or have some foraging experience, these workshops will provide the fundamentals of responsible mushroom foraging to prepare you for a bountiful mushroom season. 

Join this special event where the first hour and a half is FREE, and the second half ($40/person) is more in depth for those looking to understand basic mycology. Get ready to hunt those delicious wild fungi!

This course has a FREE preamble! You need to RSVP but you can show up early to this event to attend a FREE Mushroom Foraging Basics course! This FREE session will be 1.5 hours long and is booked only through My Garden Nursery and you must RSVP by calling (360) 366-8406. Northwest Natura is not in charge of RSVPs to the free part of this event.

In the FREE session (1.5 hours) you will learn:

  • Mushroom identification techniques for common edible and poisonous species

  • Mushroom foraging basics: regulations, ethics, safety, and gear

  • List of resources to help you safely identify mushrooms you find

  • Tips for finding your own reliable mushroom foraging spots

  • Q&A period – come with questions to ask a foraging expert!
