In this course we will learn all about lichens as we walk along a trail picking up delicate pieces that have fallen from the canopy, observing low-hanging lichens on trees, and crusts that grow on bark, stone, and wood.
This ~3-hour session will teach you the names of several common lichens you’ll find in PNW woodlands and forests, how we categorize them by form, and much about their biology, ecology, and ethnobotany.
There will be an emphasis on learning about lichens, but we can stop to ID any plant or fungi species that interests your group.
