Ancestral Skills: Bone Tool Wildcrafting

Northside Northwest Natura Land - Boulder Creekside near Maple Falls, WA
Note: this course will be moved indoors (Bellingham location) in the case of gale force winds or atmospheric rivers in the forecast. Details about an alternative location will be announced only if needed. This class will remain outdoors if there are normal amounts of rain expected.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Join NW Natura around a crackling fire this winter and engage in the ancient technique of turning bones into tools and art.
Work with various animal bones to make tools like awls, needles, arrowheads, ornaments, or get started making something more ambitious if you’re interested in a long-term project.
Option to craft multiple pieces to take home with you depending on your own pace.
Students are welcome to bring their own materials and use materials provided.
Learn about sustainable practices of harvesting materials from nature with an emphasis on respect and reverence for wild beings and the environment.
Get hands-on experience with traditional and modern tools used in the crafting process
Practice safe and efficient knife, saw, and file use
WHAT TO BRING:
Dress for the weather (outdoor workshop)
Camp chair and a blanket or towel
Snacks/lunch and water
Your own materials (bones, chainsaw file, knife, etc.) - optional
