Join Salish Sea naturalist, Jazmen Yoder for a day on the beach to learn about tideland organisms, coastal ecology, and stewardship practices while we prepare to create a hanging ornament made from stones, shells, wood, and other materials that can be ethically and legally sourced from nature.
You can make whatever you want, but instructions will be on how to craft a shell mobile. Bring your own suncatching prisms, crystals, and special pieces from home. Materials to attach and piece together your treasures will be provided
Meet at the trail (TBA) for a low tide walkabout
Learn the names of shellfish and other tideland creatures
Workshop on the coastline with lots of accessories and battery-powered handheld drills
Make your own shell mobile for indoor/outdoor hanging
Meet new people, find community, and have an absolutely beautiful day on the beach together.
Dress for the weather (an email will be sent with forecast info 3-5 days prior to the event)
Snacks/lunch and plenty of water
Sun protection (hat, glasses, long sleeves, SPF, etc.)
Basket, bag, or box for collecting in
Blanket or camp chair (both?) for sitting outside (optional but recommended)
Your own supplies (optional. List below for inspiration only:)
Pieces from a thrifted wind chime (pieces must be pre-drilled)
Crystals (pre-wrapped, drilled, or ready for wrapping)
Sun catching prisms (bead-style; large or small)
Awesome sticks, stones, shells, or bones you already have and want to include in your creation or share with others.
You will receive an automated confirmation of payment. Registered individuals will receive location details, driving directions, weather forecast details and other info in an event-reminder email 3-4 days prior to the event.
