Are you ready for the coming mushroom season? Join outdoor educator, Salish Sea naturalist, and experienced forager, Jazmen Yoder, for this comprehensive one-day workshop to get prepared! We’ll cover essential skills and knowledge to safely and responsibly forage for wild mushrooms in your area.

What to expect:

This 3.5-hour seminar will be entertaining and full of memorable information:

  • Learn mushroom identification techniques for common edible and poisonous species

  • Learn about mushroom ecology, fungal life cycles, seasonality, and habitats

  • Receive professional tips for finding your own reliable mushroom foraging spots

  • Learn mushroom foraging basics: regulations, ethics, safety, and gear

  • Be wowed by medicinal mushroom discoveries and where to find key species that can be turned into home remedies for a variety of ailments.

  • Learn about relatedness of various species, common misnomers in mycology, how to take a spore print (and why you do it) and so much more!

Through lecture, demonstration, and a chance to interact with an expert, you’ll gain confidence and know-how before you find yourself in the middle of the upcoming foraging season. We’ll also discuss preservation, cooking, and other ways to enjoy your fungal finds as well.

Whether you’re a beginner or have some foraging experience, this workshop will provide the fundamentals of responsible mushroom foraging to prepare you for a bountiful mushroom season. Join this special event to get ready to hunt wild fungi!

What to bring:

  • Notebook and pen (optional but recommended)

  • Photos or samples of mushrooms you’ve found (optional)

Snacks and drinks are available at the Purple Flamingo Cafe at the entrance to My Garden Nursery.
