Ecosystem Awareness: Naturalist Scavenger Hunt

from $45.00

Saturday November 28th, 2026
Whatcom County (Trail TBA) within 40 minutes of Bellingham.
12:00-4:30pm

Join Naturalist, Jazmen Yoder on a gentle walk through the woods to learn about edible and medicinal plants and fungi, lichen that you can use for dyes or medicines, how to ID nests and other sign birds leave behind, wildlife track ID, tree ID, and so much more in the first 2.5 hours of this intriguing class offering on everything nature!

In the last half of class, you’ll be set loose to complete a 20 to 25-item scavenger hunt that includes whimsical finds like peculiarly shaped sticks and stones, nests or burrows, wildlife tracks, edible or medicinal plants (maybe you’re given a specific plant, maybe you’re given a “first aid need” that you have to find a plant for), and mushrooms of course! You’ll have gained the knowledge in the first part of class to be able to correctly identify all the things on the scavenger hunt.

This course takes place on Thanksgiving weekend - bring just yourself, a friend or family member out to spend some time in nature learning about the random things we find on the trail. If you or your buds are interested in medicinal plants, edible mushrooms, knowing more about lichen, wildlife, or what have you, this is going to be an enjoyable class for everybody!

This is a special event that is open to adults (and older teens 16+) only.
